A lot of times we, as artists, overthink what we are doing. We go in to extreme detail about what’s in front of us in the attempt to find perfections. We need to have every fold of fabric perfectly shaded, every line evenly spaced in our crosshatching, or the color to match the ones we see in real life. We over-analyze. We chase perfection. We loose sight of the larger picture.
Some times we have to remind ourselves to slow down. To stop for moment. To breathe.
I’m not sure where or when I first heard the phrase “Keep It Simple, Stupid” but so often I have to say it to myself or I will loose myself in a drawing, a piece of writing, and/or a painting. K.I.S.S.
That is the challenge this week. Keeping it simple. Don’t overthink it (the challenge or the drawing) and remember that creating art should be fun.
Everyone is welcome to join in on this adventure. Please follow these simple steps to send in your drawings and participate.
This was a quick figure drawing / sketch that I did based off of some of my co-workers talking the other morning. Quick lines to define forms. Sketches with little to no detail is how I get back to the basics. – STKerr
